US survey shows customers believe smart meters could lower water use
A survey carried out by Oracle in the USA and Canada indicates that consumers care about water conservation and believe that they could reduce their water use. The survey of 1200 water customers and 300 water managers, examined the role that smart meters might play in helping water utilities deliver a more intelligent approach to managing water consumption.
The consumers that were surveyed believed that receiving more detailed information on their water consumption would motivate their water conservation efforts. Key facts from the report include:
- 76% are concerned about the need to conserve water in their community.
- 69% believe they could reduce their personal water use.
- 71% believe having access to detailed usage data would encourage them to take steps to lower water use.
The report also includes results from the survey of water managers on the key challenges and opportunities of introducing smart water meters. Full details of the report and how to download a copy can be found here on the Oracle website.
